Happy Hour

Happy hour is a marketing term for a period of time in which a restaurant or bar offers discounts on alcoholic drinks, such as beer, wine, and cocktails.

Typically, it is in the late afternoon Monday through Thursday, usually taking place at some period between 4 PM and 8 PM. Many bars also have a late night happy hour for afternoon shift workers from 10 PM-1 AM.

This promotion is intended to boost business on what may otherwise be a slow day.

The happy hour app will provide the user with a list of places currently offering discounts - including the period the offer is valid, prices, distance, and directions. The app can either be downloaded for free or against a modest one-off charge.

To support the happy hours app, bars and restaurants that have chosen to take part can launch offers through a web-based system in real-time to attract customers if business is weak.

This may be a strong alternative to traditional marketing through urban newspapers or other media. Bars and restaurants will pay a monthly fee to be part of this arrangement.

The happy hour app also makes it possible to introduce mobile app banners – e.g. it is likely that a liquor brand will find it attractive to be able to reach potential customers on the fly.
